State of the art Justice Centre, Inverness
Opened in March 2020, Scotland’s first purpose build Justice Centre, Inverness Justice Centre brings together integrated justice services under one roof to support victims, witnesses, litigants and other users, with specially designed facilities for children and vulnerable witnesses.
UKCSA Full Member Plean Precast Limited, working as design and manufacture sub-contractor for Robertson Construction North, manufactured and supplied a combination of semi-dry and wet cast elements for this project as well as providing support at design stage to both architect and contractor and producing individual component detail design, fixing and lift plan drawings prior to manufacture.
The semi dry component consisted of over 3000 copes and blocks, whilst the wet cast supply consisted of over 220 individual column, cope, beam and façade elements in high quality white, etched finish. Wet Cast units were up to 11.5m in length and in excess of 11T in weight, demonstrating its use in a project not traditionally associated with cast stone and showcasing the capabilities of Plean Precast to tackle large scale projects.
Project architects, Reiach and Hall Architects, have commented: ‘Precast concrete is a critical element in the design of The Inverness Justice Centre. Our intention was to create a modern building that captured the gravitas, dignity and permanence of the traditional courthouse, the precast pilasters are key to this ambition. Reiach and Hall Architects have worked with Plean for many years, their product is invariable precise, consistent and beautiful while their service thoroughly professional. We are so excited that they now offer the design of fixings for their product too.’
