A new 5-star resort destination near Darlington has been finished in a range of high quality cast stone details from UKCSA member Woodside Cast Stone.
Designed by Browne Smith Baker and built by Shepherd Construction, Rockliffe Hall comprises a 5-star hotel, a championship golf course and one of the largest spas in the country.
A glazed atrium links the new buildings to a Grade 11-listed country house designed by Alfred Waterhouse, best known for his design for London’s Natural History Museum.
Project architect and lead consultant Guy Holmes specified fine cast stone details around entrances, openings and gables to complement the detailing of the old hall. A two-storey veranda forms a prominent feature on the southern elevation and the project makes extensive use of balustrading.
Bespoke cast stone was specified instead of carved natural stone on the grounds of cost. As part of the project team, Woodside Cast Stone worked closely with the architect and contractor to detail the stonework and achieve a cost-effective solution..
