Cast stone for residential barn conversion
UKCSA member Procter Cast Stone's client had a requirement for bespoke cast stone features for the spa area of their barn conversion, and had a very clear vision of what they wanted to achieve and set high standards of quality, user experience and visual impact.
There was an extremely tight deadline for this project of 8 weeks. Similar projects are usually scheduled for around 14 weeks, so it was known from the outset this needed to be a slick operation. In addition there were design consideration requirements for support steelwork and the window surrounds were visible internally and externally, plus powered blinds would be fitted. New materials also needed to be sympathetic to the reclaimed features that were being incorporated into the scheme.
The pool edging had its own challenges due to the fact cast stone is mainly an aesthetic product but in this instance it also had to perform a function. That being, it was the raised area around the perimeter of the pool, so effectively a step where bare feet would be placed, which meant comfort and safety needed to be considered.
In order to address the above challenges, all areas were surveyed on site and the cast stone supplier worked closely with the contractor, so that detailed technical drawings could be produced for approval and manufacture. This included cast stone designs and colours being complementary to the reclaimed features. While the poolside columns were designed so that vertical steel supporting members could be accommodated.
Through the UKCSA Member's knowledge and expertise, they helped create an amazing private spa that was functional, sympathetic to the original features and visually breath-taking. And all within the tight timescale.
The fitting team that installed the product remarked that the product was “the best cast stone they had ever worked with” and the client was exceptionally happy with the end result and that “exactly what they had envisaged” had been delivered.
