Project: - Large replacement pier cap.
Building Type: - Private Residence.
Cast Stone Material: - Wet-cast Cast Stone.
Location: - Kent.

This decorative and bespoke replacement pier cap was created by UKCSA Full Member Haddonstone Limited for a private residence after the original was damaged by a delivery vehicle. The client’s entranceway displays two matching pier caps and they were therefore keen to replace the damaged pier cap with an exact replica. In December 2017, Haddonstone's skilled team visited the site to obtain full details from the remaining pier cap. Haddonstone's skilled studio and pattern making team then created a wooden and resin mould in order to replicate the damaged pier cap. The replacement pier cap was manufactured in UKCSA Full Member Haddonstone's wet cast cast stone material, because it is a high specification wet-cast limestone that provides a smooth finish and does not weather as quickly as standard cast stone. A special colour was created to ensure the replacement pier cap matched the remaining one. To ensure the pier cap could be lifted back into position easily by the installer, lifting sockets were attached to a reinforcement cage in the large sections and care was taken to ensure these were not visible once the installation was complete. To enable the contractor to continue with the construction of the brick piers, Haddonstone also provided a template of the underside of the pier string. The replacement pier cap design was completed in May 2018.

Project: - Jesus College.
Building Type: - Education.
Cast Stone Material: - Wet-cast Cast Stone.
Location: Cambridge.

UKCSA Full Member Haddonstone Ltd was approached by their client to provide high quality bespoke façade details for this award-winning Gort Scott building at Jesus College, Cambridge. The contemporary design was replicated on the five faces of the building. For this, Haddonstone had to provide elevation and component drawings for each element supplied which resulted in nearly 100 drawings for approval prior to manufacture. Given of the size and detail of the heads and jambs, they had to incorporate structural reinforcement, lifting and restraint sockets. In addition, particular attention was given to the design and accuracy of the moulds, so that they could be sure all the items lined up precisely during the installation process. The sequence for delivery was crucial as the site access was restricted and there were limited storage facilities. The unique design for Jesus College has received many prestigious awards including a BREEAM Excellent rating and Best Commercial Building at the Brick Awards 2016. The project also won both a RIBA National Award and a RIBA East Award.

Project: - Goosecroft Road.
Building Type: - Residential and retail.
Cast Stone Material: - Wet-cast Cast Stone.
Location: - Stirling.

Situated in the historic city of Stirling this contemporary mixed use development of residential and retail, utilises cast stone, supplied by UKCSA Full member GreconUK, in a non-traditional way. Rather than replicating traditional Georgian or Edwardian styles that cast stone finds an extensive use, the design incorporated cast stone to highlight and complement the brick and modern façade materials. Wet cast, cast stone was supplied by GreconUK for the horizontal string bands, vertical columns, shop panels and art infill panels. Of note for this project is the radius portion to one end of the building that replicates the profile of the leading edge of an aircraft wing. Transitional curves were detailed to maintain the smooth ‘flow’ from straight to radius and multi- radii components were detailed to accommodate the tightening curve between elevations. Special fixings were supplied by UKCSA Associate Member CFS.

Project: - Bishops Row.
Building Type: - Residential development.
Cast Stone Material: - Wet-cast Cast Stone .
Location: - Fulham, London.

UKCSA Full Member Haddonstone Ltd was approached by Octagon Developments to provide high quality cast stonework for their new development on Bishops Row in Fulham, London. Bishops Row is a terrace of nine elegant houses running parallel to the River Thames. The deceptively spacious four and five bedroom townhouses are centred around family living with high specification finishes. The design features innovative outdoor spaces including courtyard gardens, balconies and terraces overlooking the river. The location and prestige of the Bishops Row development required high attention to detail and a luxurious finish. Haddonstone's team worked closely with Octagon Developments to ensure that the stonework would reflect the prestigious vision for the development. Haddonstone's TecStone wet-cast cast stone material was used because it provides a smooth finish and does not weather as quickly as standard cast stone. This was the perfect choice for this luxurious property development. The façade of each property has designs ranging from porticos, parapets and balustrading to cladding, pier caps and window surrounds. Each property includes an impressive entrance walkway through a walled garden featuring pier caps and copings manufactured by Haddonstone's skilled team. A portico with a balustraded balcony was used to provide a grand entrance into each property. The private walled gardens to the rear of Bishops Row were also enhanced with Haddonstone's capping stones and cladding to provide a more contemporary feel. Whilst some of Haddonstone's standard products worked well for the project there was also a need to produce custom-made stonework to suit the high specification design requirements.
